Never too old....

This weekend I spent time learning about Twitter and Twubs.  Now I consider myself to be internet savvy, but boy have I learned a lot this weekend.  A big thank you to Chris and Sharon of Verbo Computers for all of your help.

So now Crafters @ Play now has a twitter account and you can find regular updates on our challenges and news on there as well as on Facebook.  Find us on twitter or  #craftersatplay on twubs

Wooden it be wonderful

Today at Crafters @ Play (a Facebook group for paper crafters of all levels) a new challenge has started.  To take part all you need to do is create a project that has a wooden embellishment on it.  Easy peezy.

But that is not the best part.

Fernli Designs is sponsoring the event and they are giving away a fabulous prize which includes loads of their products AND two tickets for a raffle that they will be running soon. This means that the winner will have 2 chances to win more goodies.

If you haven't already, click on the link in the side bar and join Crafters @ Play.  There are challenges for all kinds of paper crafts and tutorials for those of you looking to try something new.  The group caters for all levels of crafter, so it doesn't matter if you have been crafting for a while or are just curious and want to give it a go.  Everyone is very friendly and happy to help out if you get stuck.

I'm off to go finish a DT project.  Hope the day treats you all well.

Challenging

Hi

Sorry it has been so long since my last post but things have been a little hectic.  I am still in the process of setting up my new group Crafters @ Play and working on my Design Team project for Fernli Designs (I have a list of those to work on).

Now to explain the title.  When I craft I tend to have an idea in my head of what I want to do.  Often it is something I have never tried before, so I have to work out how the project will go together.  I take pictures as I work and quite often, they will be turned into a tutorial. For me, this is part of the challenge of creating something new and sometimes, this is the part that I enjoy the most.

Because of the way that I craft I often make mistakes.  BOY do I make mistakes, and going back through my pictures or tutorials, I can often see where techniques can be tweaked or improved upon.  The trick is not to get bogged down with the bits that didn't go so good.

I think I have shown you this one before.  The shape is based on one made by Andrew Roberts a while back.  It looks okay in this picture and it does work but.......

I went a little crazy with the structure strips on the inner box and as a result, you have to really wiggle the lid to get it off.

Don't be afraid to try things.  Yes stuff will go wrong from time to time, but that is part of the fun and you learn what not to do next time.  I have crafters that I follow and greatly admire, but I bet that they, like us, have a pile of projects hidden away that they messed up or didn't finish.

Have fun with your crafting.  Challenge yourself to try some thing new and out of your comfort zone.  You might like it :)

Weekend of tutorials

Hi Bloggers

This weekend I had three tutorials spread over 2 desks.  I am really pleased with myself at the moment because two are going really well and the third one is finished.

The completed one explains how to make the bench I showed you in Just a little bit using Fernli Designs products and you can find it on "MY Fernli Designs" page along the top bar.  I have turned the photos into a video and it is so easy to make that I think a child could do it.

Crafters @ Play is doing well.  There is a talented bunch of crafters in there already and you wouldn't believe that some of them are still fairly new to the world of crafting.  I'm still making plans, but it is too early to tell what is working and what needs tweaking, so I can relax and  just enjoy a bit for now.

Time for me to go cook dinner so laters for now

Scary in a good way

I have taken the plunge and I have started my own crafting group.  It is a group for all types of paper crafting and crafters of all levels.

Starting and running a group is scary business, because everyone has a different opinion of what a group is about.  I'm looking forward to the challenge and I have loads of ideas running around in my head that will hopefully come to life in the group.

I haven't managed any crafting today, but hopefully tomorrow I will get some play time.

Dinner dishes wont wash them selves so I'm off for now.

Creative mode

Well a new box of Fernli Designs goodies landed on my doorstep yesterday and I just can't put in to words how happy that made me.  Here is a video of what I received.

So right now I am in planning mode.  I'm scribbling down ideas for what I can make and the odd note on more that I need.   I have already realised that some of my plans require more than I currently have in my stash.  So some crafty shopping may be needed or plans may need to be changed.

I'm going to try to make tutorials for everything that I make, so keep an eye on my tab at the top called "MY Fernli Designs"

Well I'm off to scribble some more.

Like a kid at Christmas

I have been in a bouncy happy mood since yesterday.  In fact I have bee grinning like a loon and carrying on like a kid with a new toy.  Why?  Well I got asked a question yesterday that I could only dream of being asked.

I have been asked if I would like to be a regular design team member for Fernli Designs and of course I said yes.  I had already been given a guest design spot for December, but this means that I will be making regular projects for them.  I'm still grinning a day later.  Just in case you haven't figured it out yet, I love love love their products.

I have bought from other companies dealing in wooden embellishments before, but you just can't beat Fernli Designs for quality and competitive prices.  The fact that they make steampunk bits is a big bonus for me, but it is their flourishes that I can't currently get enough of.

I've made a few changes to my life recently.  I have stepped down as admin from CFG.  A great collection of groups, that I have been a part of since February 2013.  Being a group admin takes up a lot of time and energy so I am going to take a few weeks to decide what I want to do next and just craft for the fun of it.

I'm also starting to get more exercise.  Not for weight loss as much (though I definately need to loose loads) and more for health and fitness.

Before I go I wanted to show you a layout that I recently made.

This is my youngest, Xander

I was worried about putting flowers on a boy layout but I think it works.

Just one week old.

I need to go scribble down more ideas

Just a little bit

Today's make was inspired by one made by Tammy Henderson.  I think her bench is metal, but it has so much work in it.  It's amazing.

Apologies in advance, but lots of pictures on this one.

This bench is dinky.  It is 4 inches wide and 3 inches high. I decided to go with over sized flowers and baubles because it suited my mood.

I love this heart clover flourish.  I'm ordering more now that I have played with this one.

Here you can see the two fence panels I used to make the main part of the bench.  I will put links to all of the pieces that I used at the end of this post.

Flourish arm rests

This was so much fun to make.  I will definately be making more.

I used :-

Heart Clover
Flourishes 2 (6 set)
Fence
Mini Hearts
Tiny Diamonds. (Special order)

I'm off to play some more.
